The Hard Work of Our Amazing Staff - Billy

If you’ve spent much time around Jobs of Hope, you’ve probably met Billy Morones. Billy is the operations manager for the Rick Hartman House of Hope and has been a part of the Jobs of Hope family for many years beginning as a volunteer. He is a joy to be around and has contributed great things to Jobs of Hope and the Weld County community.

Billy grew up in Greeley with his mother and six siblings without his father in the picture. Sadly, Billy was labeled a problem drinker at the age of 16. Over the next forty-five years, Billy spent about 12 years in prison for crimes related to his addiction. Things began to turn around during one of his trips to detox. “I was tired and exhausted, mentally and physically. I was looking for a way out.” He began searching for help and ultimately found himself at a treatment center in

Littleton. “That was January 23rd, 2015, and I have been sober ever since.”

Billy eventually returned to Greeley where he was invited to attend a roundtable by former Jobs of Hope executive director Pres Montoya. Billy is so glad he found Jobs of Hope, and his smiling face can be found at almost any Jobs of Hope function.

Today, Billy serves as the Rick Hartman House of Hope Operations manager. Through this role, Billy helps to maintain our transitional house. When our men need something fixed, Billy is who they call. One of the most rewarding parts of Billy’s role is working with the men in temporary jobs. “Sometimes it’s yard work, sometimes it’s painting, sometimes it’s redoing a bathroom. Working with the men themselves is a great joy and experience.”

Billy’s role is not just hammers and nails. He has also had to have some difficult conversations with some of the men to get them to take steps to better themselves during some of their lowest points. “It’s not a happy situation when you run into someone who is under the influence. I happen to be able to spend time with them privately to convince them to go to detox. That to me is an accomplishment in the right direction.”

One of Billy’s favorite parts of his job is helping participants move into their new residences by acquiring and picking up furniture, but more importantly, it is extremely rewarding for Billy to see the progress the men are making in their lives.

As we approach the fall season, please continue to pray for Billy’s continued success as Rick Hartman House of Hope Operations Manager as well as the continued success of the participants of Jobs of Hope and Jobs of Hope as a whole.

Thank you for your continued support and have a blessed day!
